The Cascade steps its levels rather than stacking them straight up. Offsetting each platform gives a cat a natural climbing path with short hops instead of vertical leaps, which keeps the whole tower in use rather than just the top and bottom.
Wood construction is what holds the offset design rigid. Cantilevered platforms put more stress on the frame than centred ones, and timber takes that where particleboard develops sag at the joints inside a year.
