The Elmspire is a two tier tree with a deliberately small base. It gives a cat somewhere elevated to sit in a room that cannot accommodate a full tower, which is the compromise most apartment owners end up making badly.
The rattan perch is the difference. Woven cane has give and texture that flat carpeted platforms do not, so a cat can grip it, knead it and settle into it, and it looks like a piece of furniture rather than a carpeted post.
Wood carries the load. A narrow base only stays stable if the frame is rigid, and timber keeps the perch steady when a cat lands on it from height. A tree that shifts underfoot is a tree cats abandon within a week.
